About David

Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Around age 10 I decided I wanted to fly jet fighters. When my eyesight went bad, I could not become a pilot; I shifted my goal to becoming a back-seater in the Navy's new F-14 Tomcat. (The official term for an F-14 back-seater was Radar Intercept Officer (RIO).)
After graduation from college and almost 2 years of training, I joined my first F-14 squadron in 1981. In 1984 I became a TOPGUN instructor at the Navy Fighter Weapons School, and while there I helped make the movie "Top Gun." During my Navy service I worked in the Pentagon, lived in Japan for 2 1/2 years, and later commanded an F-14 squadron. I retied in 1999.
After retirement I worked for several companies in the Washington, DC, area. I also wrote three books about my flying experiences. The book titles are: Topgun Days, Before Topgun Days, and Tomcat RIO.
I moved to Brevard County in 2018 and retired. I recently decided I should use my time more wisely, and became a real estate agent.
